Rev. Simon Day Haislip, Sr. 84, of Emporia, VA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Durham, NC.

Rev. Haislip was a Halifax County native, the son of the late David Samuel Haislip and Nora Moore Haislip. He served as pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, Rosedale Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD and Bible Baptist Church in Emporia, VA during his 50-year ministry.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Doris) Haislip of Emporia; two daughters, Darlene Middleton of Raleigh and Debra Raper of Greensboro; one son, Simon Day (Skip) Haislip, Jr. of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, Wendy Middleton, Denny Haislip, Brant Haislip, and Tara Haislip; and four great-grandchildren, Alexander Haislip, Isabella Haislip, Holly Haislip and Christian Haislip.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Friday, September 24, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Carl Skinner officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Rev. Haislip’s service to his country.
